Now Joomla offers 3 options for registration

1. Registration without any Activation

This is the most simple registration procedure. User doesn't need to confirm their email address. They only need to fill information into Registration form and submit. They can start using their account right away as their account will automatically be activated and enabled. There is only one email send out to user and There is no "New registration" notification email to administrator.

2. Registration with Self Activation

This registration procedure requires user to confirm their email address after they register. When user make registration, system will send them an email with activation link. They can click on link or copy-pasted it into browser. After that they can start using their account. There is only one email send out to user and There is no "New registration" notification email to administrator.

3. Registration with Admin Activation

This registration procedure requires user to confirm their email address after they register and Administrator to activate user account.
There are 3 emails sent out for this option of registration procedure.
  • When user makes registration, system will send out an email to user with activation link to confirm their email address.
  • After user confirms their email address, system will send an email to administrator to activate/approve user account.
  • After administrator activate/approve user account, system will send email to user about approval of their user account.

Note :

With Joomla Emails plug-in, site will be able to send New registration notification email to administrator.

To change user registration option

User registration options are no longer in Global configuration. From Joomla 1.6, Joomla team has moved it into Users Configuration.
  • Login into Backend
  • Users -> User Manager

  • You will see Users Configuration page
